Colin Gates | Tai Chi Instructor


Tai chi/Qigong, referred to as moving meditation, Chinese yoga, and internal martial arts is now offered at MINDBODY WISDOM, Wednesday evening at 5:30 pm and Saturday morning at 11:30 am. All ages and any level of fitness and health are welcomed. The teacher (Sifu) is Colin Gates.


Sifu Gates’ formal education consists of six years of study in many fields including: Exercise Physiology, Growth and Development, Athletic Injuries, Motor Learning, Coaching, Education, Anatomy, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biomechanics, and Kinesiology. He competed in two sports in college and made a third team while in his late thirties. Through hard martial arts, injurious activities and sports, Mr. Gates discovered a need for quicker healing. He found it in tai chi. Sifu Gates also has a background in natural healing.


Mr. Gates began his studies in hard style (external) martial arts disciplines, first with judo as a child and youth. He studied Praying Mantis Kung Fu, Northern Style, in college, and continued after college studying Shaolin Chuan Fa and Kenpo, and Wing Chung Ku Fu for another six years. Injuries due to sports moved him to investigate internal styles (tai chi) and qigong for the healing aspects. For eight years Mr. Gates studied qigong and three styles of tai chi from a number of masters. He has been sharing this expertise for years.
